Sports Medicine
The physicians and staff of Tennessee Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics
have served area high schools since 1994. Team physicians join the schools
Certified Athletic Trainers, who are present for practices and game events,
and for sideline coverage. Physical therapists and Certified Athletic
Trainers work closely with the physicians to return athletes to competition
as quickly and safely as possible. Students enrolled in the CAAHEP approved
Cumberland University Athletic Training
Education Program enjoy educational opportunities
in clinical care, surgery observation, and rehabilitation.

The Certified Athletic Trainer is a highly educated and skilled professional
specializing in athletic health care. In cooperation with physicians
and other allied health personnel, the athletic trainer functions as
an integral member of the athletic health care team in secondary schools,
colleges and universities, sports medicine clinics, professional sports,
and other settings.

PREPARE On-Line Sports Safety Course for
Youth Coaches
The PREPARE course, developed by the National Center for Sports Safety,
educates coaches to handle a wide range of injuries from blisters and
sprains to life-threatening head and neck injuries and costs only $28
to complete. Learn vital sports safety skills that will give you the
knowledge and confidence needed to respond to injuries and emergencies
appropriately. To take the course, click the PREPARE logo, then click
on the Distance Learning/Education tab, and follow the directions to
purchase the course. When asked for the Referring Ambassador Code during
the registration process enter 1015. This lets NCSS know how you found
out about this great program.
There is not one parent that would
drop their child off at a local community pool if there were not a certified
lifeguard on duty. That same standard of care should be available at
every sports facility in this country. If we can prevent just one fatality
or injury, it will be worth the effort.
